Human Hair Sample

The hair sample should be taken from the base of the hair, close to the scalp, cutting as close to the skin as possible.

The hair should be cleaned with simple shampoo and free of gels, oils, and hair creams. The hair should be untreated (not permed, dyed or bleached).

If the hair has been chemically treated, wait 6-8 weeks until sufficient new hair has emerged to allow for sampling.

LOCATION of cutting

Use high-grade stainless steel scissors or thinning shears, clean the scissors with rubbing alcohol prior to cutting. From just under the crown of the head, separate the upper layer of hair and cut small samples of hair from 3-4 different locations around the scalp. Cut the hair as close to the skin as possible.

LENGTH of hair

The sample length should not exceed 1.5”. If your sample is longer than 1.5”, cut the section off furthest from the scalp end and discard.

AMOUNT of hair

Use the scale card included in your hair sample package to weigh the correct amount of hair is (about 125 mg).

Place your sample directly into the provided envelope.  Do not place in foil or plastic wrap.

Equine Hair Sample

The mane hair sample should be taken from the base of the mane, cutting as close to the skin as possible.

LOCATION of cutting

Use high-grade stainless steel scissors or thinning shears, clean the scissors with rubbing alcohol prior to cutting. From the base of the mane,  cut your hair sample. Cut the hair as close to the skin as possible.

LENGTH of hair

The sample length should not exceed 1.5”. If your sample is longer than 1.5”, cut the section off furthest from the skin end and discard. 

AMOUNT of hair

Use the scale card included in your hair sample package to weigh the correct amount of hair is (about 125 mg).

Place your sample directly into the provided envelope.  Do not place in foil or plastic wrap.

Canine Hair Sample

LOCATION of cutting

Use high-grade stainless steel scissors or thinning shears, clean the scissors with rubbing alcohol prior to cutting. From the nape of the neck, cut small samples of hair from 3-4 different locations. Cut the hair as close to the skin as possible. 

LENGTH of hair

The sample length should not exceed 1.5”. If you have a long haired dog and your sample is longer than 1.5”, cut the section off furthest from the skin end and discard, Keeping about an 1″ to 1.5″ of hair for the sample.

Use the scale card included in your hair sample package to weigh the correct amount of hair is (about 125 mg)

Place your sample directly into the provided envelope Do not place in foil or plastic wrap.
